Boasting 20 high-speed charging stalls, this flagship hub addresses the challenges of limited space and high demand for public charging in the densely populated city. The easy facility, housed in a former auto shop and tour bus depot, redefines the conventional charging experience by providing a secure, indoor environment. With 24/7 security and an on-site attendant, the charging hub ensures safety, especially in a region notorious for car break-ins. The expansive interior features two climate-controlled lounges equipped with vending machines, workspaces, and complimentary Wi-Fi, offering a comfortable respite for drivers during charging sessions.
Electrify America collaborated closely with local utility PG&E to develop a bespoke high-voltage power system capable of a 3.5-megawatt draw from the grid, ensuring efficient charging for all 20 stations simultaneously. The chargers themselves, the latest 350-kilowatt load-balanced stations, deliver rapid charging speeds, with each pair sharing up to a 350-kW maximum.
This forward-thinking approach also addresses the evolution of EV charging technology, as the hub is designed to accommodate and convert to NACS plugs once widespread industry adoption occurs. Electrify America’s commitment to maintenance and efficiency is evident with an on-site attendant, ensuring one of the best-maintained stations in their network.
As EV adoption surges in the Bay Area, the Harrison Street hub’s strategic location near highways, the Bay Bridge, and residential areas is poised to become a bustling hub of activity. Electrify America anticipates swift turnover at the charging stalls, minimizing queues, and optimizing the charging experience. The San Francisco flagship sets a new standard for EV charging infrastructure, hinting at a future where such indoor hubs become commonplace, particularly in cities facing harsh weather conditions.
